Pushing the limits of 5G: 5G Industry 4.0 Testbed

The 5G Industry 4.0 test bed at Fraunhofer IIS is an open environment for testing specific customer use cases in industry and logistics. It employs the latest mobile technology under real-life conditions in a stand-alone 5G campus network.

Businesses with their own campus network benefit from a customized 5G network with guaranteed available bandwidth, low latency and high reliability.

Our mobile campus network provides companies with a simple and cost-effective way to find out in advance whether setting up and operating their own 5G campus network is worthwhile. The mobile campus network is a standards-compliant network for straightforward testing of 5G applications over a limited period of time. Its compact network equipment is transportable and therefore quick and easy to set up almost anywhere.

For5G: 5G in agriculture

As part of the “For5G” project, a practical 5G application is being developed for fruit growing. At the heart of the project, which is based in Franconian Switzerland, is the creation of a “digital twin” of sweet cherry trees.

Extended Network Coverage through Flying 5G Base Station

The compact base station on the drone is ideal for temporarily supplying hard-to-reach locations with 5G mobile communications.

The flying 5G base station forms a standard-compliant network for simple and temporary testing of 5G applications. This allows organizations and companies to easily and cost-effectively test in advance whether the desired network coverage can be achieved or the desired application made available with a flying base station or a very high-altitude radio unit. The equipment is transportable and can therefore be put into operation quickly and easily almost anywhere.

5G++ FlexiCell combines a wide range of communication technologies

5G++ FlexiCell is a compact 5G small cell with an integrated 5G core (nomadic island network) that integrates various other communication technologies such as WiFi, Industrial Ethernet, IO-Link Wireless and mioty, as well as localization technologies. Several FlexiCells can be federated to form a network with a handover function so that the system can grow in line with requirements.

5G OPERA shows solutions for SMEs

The 5G OPERA project demonstrates the deployment of OpenAirInterface with the 7.2x split architecture without the traditionally required fronthaul switch. This approach significantly reduces the total cost of deployment and makes advanced wireless communication systems more affordable and accessible for small and medium-sized enterprises.

MERCI project with 5G technology DECT NR+

As part of the MERCI project, a circuit board was designed that enables the evaluation and demonstration of various DECT NR+ applications. This development not only provides a channel scanner for the DECT band, but also offers firmware for the bidirectional transmission of application data such as audio or video.
