Practice-Integrated Combined Study Program (Dual Study Program):

Are you interested in new technologies and want to play an active role in shaping their further development? Then you've come to the right place!

In cooperation with the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), we offer a practice-integrated joint degree program in the following subjects:

In contrast to the traditional dual study program, the practice-integrated combined study program does not include an apprenticeship qualification. The aim is to deepen and enrich the high-quality studies at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg through practical experience at Fraunhofer IIS.

Study and practical phases will alternate. During the lecture-free period, you will work full-time with us on exciting projects. How exactly practical phases can be integrated during the lecture period depends largely on your timetable. We will determine this individually with you, based on the intensity of the individual study phases.

Your advantages:

  • From day one of your studies, you will gain an insight into exciting, practical projects and can play an active role in driving them forward. You can supplement what you have learned at university with practical experience.
  • We also support you in your individual development with an attractive supporting program.
  • You will be part of the Fraunhofer IIS Student Class and thus integrated into a good network of fellow students and supervisors from our specialist departments right from the start.
  • You will receive a contract with Fraunhofer and an attractive monthly salary for the entire duration of your studies!

In order to find the best possible solutions for current and future issues, we at Fraunhofer IIS work in international and interdisciplinary teams. We define fields of research and create technology from knowledge - with the aim of creating added value for society as a whole. With drive and a spirit of research, we find solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems - for the world of tomorrow!

We offer you the opportunity to gain an insight into a broad spectrum of very different and yet interwoven fields of research. The work of our scientists is based on two main topics: Audio and media technologies and cognitive sensor technology.

In the field of audio and media technologies, the institute has been shaping the digitization of media for more than 30 years. With mp3 and AAC, pioneering standards were developed and Fraunhofer IIS was also significantly involved in the digitalization of cinema. Current developments open up new worlds of sound and are used in virtual reality, automotive sound systems, mobile telephony, broadcasting and streaming. For example, every cell phone sold today contains audio technologies from the institute and the sound of more than half of all TV broadcasts worldwide and almost all radio and streaming services is based on Fraunhofer codecs. The professional tools for digital film and media productions are also used globally.

In connection with cognitive sensor technology, the institute researches technologies for sensor technology, data transmission technology, data analysis methods and the utilization of data in the context of data-driven services and corresponding business models. This adds a cognitive component to the function of the classic "intelligent" sensor. The research results are used in networked mobility, in communication and application solutions for the Internet of Things, in the digitalization of human perception (human sensing), in product and material monitoring and in business analytics in supply chains.
