Automated microscope scanner is an all-around talent

Erlangen/Munich, April 28, 2016 – Analytica, Hall A1, Booth 526: The SCube® is a fully automatic microscopic scanning system developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS. Highlights of the system include its suitability for a wide range of analyses, support for both transmitted-light and fluorescence microscopy, attractive pricing and compact size. Because it features a modular design, it can be custom configured to meet individual user needs. Researchers are presenting the scanner at the Analytica trade fair from May 10-13, 2016 in Munich.

Intelligent Mattress for the Prevention of Pressure Sores on Patients Who Cannot Be Sufficiently Mobilized

Some 400,000 people in Germany each year suffer from painful pressure sores on the skin, known as decubitus ulcers. These sores pri-marily affect bedridden patients who cannot be sufficiently mobilized, or whose position cannot be changed frequently enough. The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS collaborated with five partners in the development of a mattress that prevents and treats decubitus. From November 14 to 17, Fraunhofer IIS will be presenting a prototype of the mattress at the MEDICA trade fair in Düsseldorf.

Fitness game for the physically impaired

Erlangen, 2. Februar 2015 – Modern IT has the potential to make fitness training more varied for people with physi- cal limitations. But what exactly is required? Fraunhofer put this question to thalidomide victims, and developed new IT-based fitness training technology in close collaboration with them. The method motivates users with elements found in computer games.

Easy chair and fitness coach in one

Mar 05, 2013: Demographic trends have been telling the story for years. An increasingly aging society is becoming more and more self-reliant. With this in mind, researchers are working on technologies to help us manage our daily lives in later years. Fraunhofer IIS, based in Erlangen, Germany, will be introducing one such technology at the 2013 CeBIT trade fair in Hannover from March 5 to 9 (hall 9, booth E08): an intelligent easy chair designed not only for lounging comfortably in front of the television, but also for motivating us to stay healthy and in shape. The following partners have been working on this project: ISA Informationssysteme GmbH, himolla Polstermöbel GmbH, Sophia mit P.S. GmbH, Technische Universität München, Chair of Preventive Pediatrics and Chair of Building Realisation and Robotics, Innovationsmanufaktur GmbH and EnOcean GmbH.
