Dinosaurs at first hand: Multimedia guide with 3D positioning in the Perot Museum Dalllas
Searching for numbers and pushing buttons in museums belongs to the past - exhibition visitors are able to receive suitable multimedia information right at the respective exhibit - therefore mobile devices such as Samsung smartphones locate their indoor position with awiloc® to an accuracy of a few meters.
NOUS and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Texas, together with the main sponsor SAMSUNG have realized a major multimedia project. Using the museum’s in-house guide and an App, visitors explore the world of dinosaurs, simulate climatic conditions, and discover the human body.
A Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 device in hands, visitors learn about the museum and its distinctive architectural design at the outset of their tour. The 3D floorplan indicates the visitor’s location, using awiloc® location technology developed by NOUS’ partner institution Fraunhofer IIS, Germany. The guide is available in English and Spanish.
Furthermore visitors receive “general information” and orient themselves on an elaborate 3D map. Information on all areas of the museum, descriptions of the temporary shows, details on the distinct architectural style of the building, a schedule of film screenings and information on opening hours and access round up the package.
The guides ́ content was developed together with scientists of the museum, with the technical and conceptual design realized by NOUS.
