Instance segmentation XXL-CT challenge of an historic airplane
Thank you for your interest in participating in the Instance Segmentation XXL-CT Challenge. The challenge is divided into several successive phases:
Phase 0 (Preparation) serves as s staging phase after the announcement of the challenge. We will provide the training datasets in Phase 1 (Training) and the testing datasets without reference segmentation in Phase 2 (Testing). The submitted instance segmentations of the testing dataset will be evaluated in Phase 3 (Evaluation) and results will be published in Phase 4 (Publication). The challenge will conclude with Phase 5 (End).
Registration and participation is possible under the following conditions.
- The XXL-CT-Challenge is a non-profit event. Participation in the XXL-CT-Challenge is free of charge. A “Participant” is a team that consists of one to several persons representing a scientific organization or company. Each participant will be represented by the corresponding member designated in the registration form. Fraunhofer IIS is the “Organizer” of the event. After registration and during the Training Phase of the XXL CT Challenge, the participants will be able to download an initial set of XXL-CT data (512 x 512 x 512 voxels) obtained from a historic airplane from the “Deutsches Museum” in Munich, Germany, including related reference segmentation from the organizers (“training dataset”).
- At the start of the Testing Phase the organizers will provide the participants with a single volume (512 x 512 x 512 voxel) of similar XXL-CT data of the airplane without reference segmentation (“testing dataset”). This testing dataset will serve as the basis for the XXL CT Challenge.
- In the XXL CT Challenge, the participants are invited to apply or develop their own approaches for instance segmentation (automatic or semi-automatic) to delineate the depicted parts (screws, rivets, sheets, plates) of the testing dataset as good as possible, using the training data set and its annotation as reference.
- Also in the testing phase, the participants are invited to submit their segmentation result of the testing dataset to the organizers. Information about the upload modalities of the segmentation result will be provided to the participants. During the Evaluation Phase the organizers will match and compare the provided segmentation result of the participants to the reference segmentation of the testing dataset which was held back in step 3.) and will provide the participants with the results.
- By submitting a result the partici¬pants express their interest in contributing to a joint scientific publication about the challenge, written and coordinated by the organizers. The participants will be asked provide the organizers with a short text (1-2 pages and suitable graphics) describing their segmentation method in more detail in addition to their segmentation results.
- By submitting their segmentation result, the participants confirm that it is their own result and assign to the organizers the rights to use these results for publication and to name at least two team members as co-authors in a joint publication.
- The organizers will not publish the provided results otherwise without their documented consent.
- If the participants wish to publish their results on the provided data in extended format they are free to do so after the challenge has been concluded and the joint publication has been released.
- None of the provided data sets may be used commercially by the participants, the data sets may not be sublicensed, duplicated or passed on. The participants do not acquire any further rights and may only use the data set for the participation in the XXL-CT-Challenge.
- The organizers do not warrant the accuracy, correctness, freedom from third-party rights, completeness and/or usability of the data sets provided by it. Any liability in this respect is excluded except in cases of intent and gross negligence.
- Your contact details filled in in the registration form will not be passed on or published by us. The relevant data protection regulations will be observed. To revoke your participation in the XXL-CT-Challenge, send an E-Mail to xxl-ct-instance-segmentation-challenge@iis.fraunhofer.de
We point out that if you revoke the use of your personal data for the XXL-CT-Challenge, a participation in this will no longer be possible, as otherwise its proper implementation and smooth running cannot be guaranteed.
The data processing is carried out at the request of the interested participants and is necessary according to Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit b DSGVO for the stated purposes for the fulfillment of the participant contract and the pre-contractual measures. The personal data collected for the XXL-CT-Challenge will be electronically stored and automatically processed for the time of the XXL-CT-Challenge and for the time necessary to publish the Challenge results. If the results of the Challenge are not being published within three years from the end of the Challenge, your personal data will be deleted at the latest after the end of these three years.
