Audio Technology Highlights by Fraunhofer IIS
Booth 237
Booth 237
At AES Show 2024, Fraunhofer IIS showcases a range of innovations that take the sound experience to the next level. From creation to transmission and all the way to playback: technologies, and codecs by Fraunhofer IIS ensure maximum music enjoyment, highly efficient and flexible data transmission, and creation for several production formats.
It is the latest generation of the renowned AAC codec line and already used by major streaming services such as Netflix, by Facebook stories, and by Instagram Reels. xHE-AAC is natively supported in iOS, Android, Fire OS, and Windows. It provides DASH/HLS streaming at 12-320+ kbit/s, mandatory loudness and dynamic range control, and improved speech quality as well as stereo imaging.
A highlight of this year’s xHE-AAC presentation is the new anchor loudness feature. The innovation focuses on speech-gated loudness measurement within the xHE-AAC encoder. By normalizing loudness based on speech segments, it ensures a consistent audio experience without volume fluctuations, serving important standards like EBU R128 s4, and ATSC A/85.
Contemporary Next Generation Audio workflows have never been this easy:
Discover the MPEG-H Authoring Suite! The complete MPEG-H Audio tool chain makes authoring, encoding, and playback of your immersive, interactive audio production possible. It now includes an 8K video and immersive audio player, supports ADM-based production formats, and enables the conversion of Dolby Atmos to MPEG-H Audio.
The recently standardized 3GPP codec for Immersive Voice and Audio Services (IVAS) is the first fully immersive communication codec designed for 5G mobile systems. The IVAS codec is an extension of the mono 3GPP EVS codec and enables completely new service scenarios with interactive stereo and immersive audio.
Get to know IVAS in room 1E03 on Wed, Oct. 9 at a workshop with demos from 11:15am to 12:45pm and a paper presentation from 3:00 pm to 3:30. In addition to that, feel free to drop in at the Fraunhofer booth for a personal demo!
