Gait Analysis Lab – Visualize Movements Digitally

Since January 2022, our Motion Lab (gait analysis lab) has a state-of-the-art 3d motion capture system (international gold standard in motion analysis). This enables us to support clinically relevant research with objectively collected parameters and at the same time to address your questions on new sensor technologies.

Our range of services in the gait analysis laboratory

  • Validation of sensor technologies
  • Measurement of gait and movement patterns of (neurological) patients using instrumented methods
  • Cooperation with orthopedic technicians

Our reference projects

Validation of wearables for the NBA

Optimal training and game control in sports can only be achieved with properly functioning wearables. Wearables are measurement systems worn on the body, for example for biometric data such as heart rate. Fraunhofer IIS is responsible for the validation in the areas of physiological, such as heart rate measurement or electromyography, and movement, such as measurement of speed, distance or jump height. The validation of various technologies is carried out by means of professionally planned test days with athletes, highly automated technical test and evaluation procedures, and scientific care in the evaluation of the results. In addition, the systems and their components are tested for safety by the project partner, the University of Michigan.

treatHSP

TreatHSP project

Treat HSP is a multi-center study with the goal of investigating gait characteristics of patients with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP). In this study, the University Hospital Erlangen in cooperation with Fraunhofer IIS is involved in several ways: in data acquisition and analysis using mobile sensors on the patient's shoe, in data transfer via a secure platform (DPM.Research) and in validation of the sensors in the gait analysis laboratory for the clinical picture of HSP. In addition, our laboratory evaluates the provision of assistive devices for patients with the help of objectively collected movement data.

Das EU-Projekt Mobilise-D mit dem Ziel, einen Sensor zu entwickeln, um die Mobilität der Betroffenen zu messen.

Project Mobilise

Mobilise-D is an EU project with a duration of 5 years. The aim of this project is to develop objective, digital target parameters for recording the mobility of those affected in everyday life. These quantitative target parameters can be used in future clinical studies and thus serve as support for the development and approval of therapies (including drugs, movement concepts). The University Hospital Erlangen (UKER) is involved in patient recruitment, data collection and data analysis.
