5G NR for reliable vehicle-to-vehicle communication

NR-Sidelink was introduced as part of the 3GPP specification version 16 and enables device-to-device communication both inside and outside the network coverage.

This is used for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication for various use cases defined for V2X applications.

Fraunhofer IIS has extended the 5G NR implementation in the Access Stratum to support NR sidelink mode2 communication. This real-time prototyping allows to test different possible configurations in NR sidelink mode2 to fulfill the requirements for the defined V2X use cases.

Intelligent Open-RAN networks: Predictable QoS for teleoperation

Discover the challenges and potential of the 5G network in the field of teleoperation of autonomous vehicles through our 5G-KC project. Experience the role of a teleoperator with VR goggles, monitor a fleet of automated vehicles and control a virtual vehicle.

We present innovative solutions, including an AI-powered image reconstruction method, an advanced control element for Open-RAN in a 6G network for early detection of connectivity problems and highly accurate 3D maps.
