Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IISThe future of autonomous driving depends on reliable interconnection of vehicles and their highly accurate positioning. With its positioning capabilities, 5G can contribute to the realisation of autonomous driving. Thus, it enables the traffic of the future, e.g. by relative positioning (Device-to-Device, D2D) of vehicles for platooning. In addition to 5G positioning, Fraunhofer IIS is also researching vehicle networking and satellite-based positioning to enable autonomous driving.
